The first test match between England and Sri Lanka which is currently going on at Lord’s cricket ground, London was evenly poised when the play ended on the second day. Replying to the huge score posted by the hosts, Sri Lanka also made a very good start and had lost only 1 wicket for 140 runs when the last ball of the day was bowled.

Earlier in the day, Joe Root carried on batting as well as he was doing on the first day and ended up scoring the first double century of his career. As soon as he got to that landmark, the English captain Alastair Cook declared the innings.

Root must be grateful to the English tail-enders for helping him to get that magical figure. Almost all the lower order players from the England side showed the grit to stand with him there and helped him keep going ahead.

The Poms were just 25 short of 600 when Cook called his batsmen back and asked the opposition team to get out there batting.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad got a bit of movement with the new ball, but, they couldn’t make the Sri Lankan openers play regularly and thus, couldn’t induce the edge early on.

Chris Jordan who was brought as the first change, however, provided his team the breakthrough in his very first over, but, that remained the only Sri Lankan wicket to fall in the day.

Kumar Sangakkara walked in after that and he along with the other opener Kaushal Silva made sure that the rest of the day passed without any damage being done to his team.

Now, Sri Lanka needs to bat the entire third day with a lot of caution and try and save the follow on first.

Dravid Happy With Royals Performance

The mentor of the Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid, is very happy with the way his boys kept their cool in the previous match against the Kolkata Knight Riders which got decided in the super over.

The Royals were looking completely down and out in that game at one point of time as the Knight Riders needed only 16 runs to win in the last 2 overs with 6 wickets in hand. But, James Faulkner with a great penultimate over changed things completely. He took 3 wickets in that over and gave away only 4 runs which left KKR needing 12 off the last over.

When the last over started, the Royals were on top, but, the pendulum swung once again. Eleven runs came off the last over bowled by another Aussie Kane Richardson and the match went into the super over.

KKR batted first in the super over and scored 11. To get past that score was looking very difficult for the Royals simply because they had to face Sunil Narine, but, the men in blue didn’t lose their shape. They showed smartness and didn’t try to go for too many big shots. They instead looked to push the ball into the gaps and collected ones and twos to reach the target.

According to Dravid, when the team wins matches in this manner, its spirit goes very high.

Talking to the reporters, the former Indian batsman said, “It was very important for us to get over the line tonight. When you win games like these, you start feeling closer as a unit.”

The Royals will next lock horns with Delhi Daredevils on the upcoming Saturday. That will be an away game for them and will take place at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground.
