Sachin Tendulkar has decided to retire from Indian Premier League. Sachin made this announcement after Mumbai Indians’ win against Chennai Super Kings in the final match of IPL 6 yesterday night.

Mumbai won their first IPL trophy by defeating Chennai by a profound margin of 23 runs in the final match.

Sachin was not a part of the playing XI of Mumbai for this match because of the hand injury that he had discovered while playing in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But, he was watching the action from the sidelines and was looking very excited.

Sachin ran on to the ground the moment the last ball of the match was bowled.

Talking to Harsha Bhogle in a post match interview, Sachin said, “It’s a great feeling. We were consistent throughout the preliminary round and we carried on that momentum in the play offs as well.”

“The credit goes to the whole group. It’s a result of hard work put in by the boys in the last couple of months.”

“It’s a tough competition. The players have to travel a lot and they don’t get enough time to rest. It’s not easy to be consistent in such a tournament. But, the team was determined right from the start and we eventually managed to win this wonderful tournament.”

“Also, this was the last time that I was playing in the IPL and that makes this victory even more special. It’s a perfect ending of my IPL career.”

When asked about the reasons behind his IPL retirement, Sachin said, “I had made up my mind even before the start of the tournament. I am 40 years of age now and I think this is the best time for me to retire from IPL. It has been wonderful playing for Mumbai Indians for six years.”

The former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has said that Mumbai Indians are the strongest team in this year’s IPL and the chances of them winning the tournament this year are very good.

The IPL has already started and Mumbai Indians have played three games out of which they have won two and lost one. The match that they lost was very close and they remained just two runs behind the target.

When Ganguly was asked which team is the strongest in this year’s IPL, he said, “I think it’s Mumbai Indians. This year, they have made a few changes both in the team and in the support staff.”

“John Wright is their head coach now and I know him very well. He is a great motivator. Also, Anil Kumble as mentor will be a big help for the young players.”

“They have given the responsibility of captaincy to Ricky Ponting who I think is one of the best captains of all times.”

“Now, Harbhajan Singh and Sachin Tendulkar don’t need to worry about the team selection and all that. They will play freely now and you will see better performances from both these guys in this IPL.”

When asked about his home team Kolkata Knight Riders, Ganguly said, “They are the reigning champs, but, they shouldn’t carry it as a burden. They shouldn’t be thinking that we are the defending champions. So, we need to win every game. This will not help them. They should rather be thinking that what happened in the last IPL has gone now. This is a new campaign and we should make a fresh start.”

Kolkata Knight Riders had become the IPL Champions last year by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final match. That match was played at M. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
